Organizer’s description
Join us on Wednesday, November 4 from 6–8 PM at The Canvas SoHo, 456 West Broadway, for an evening with HOFLORE — a New York house of structured leather goods, presenting its bags in person. HOFLORE designs for the woman who notices the things that keep their shape while everything around them changes. The house takes its method from the city itself: New York tears things down and rebuilds them continually, and what survives tends to be small and specific — a door, a staircase, a detail built properly the first time. The bags are made on that principle, and the leather is expected to darken and soften with use while the form it was cut to hold stays exactly where it is. The design process is literal rather than referential. A tall building needs architectural solutions so it does not sway or lean; a tall bag needs the same ones so it stays upright when it is filled with books and a laptop. Construction — the reinforced base, the cut and sewn leather panels, the handle attachments, the stitching — is what makes that possible, and on the Azalea, Nerine and Nerine Mini the handle emerges from the body of the material in a single continuous piece, with no stitched seam at the joint and no logo anywhere on the bag. Every piece begins as an original drawing, and every piece is measured, specified and published before it goes on sale. Come see the construction in person, handle the leather, and read the reasoning behind each shape.
