**NOTE:** *After speaking with Matthew (head librarian at the KML), we decided to begin our **reading and discussion** of the **Red Book** earlier.* **Starting time: 6 pm.** **Jung’s *The Red Book*: Reading and Discussion Group** **UPDATED:** **Reading assignment for 1st meetup at the Kristine Mann Library.** From **Liber Primus:** **Prologue and chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6** (pp.117-156). \*I will be reading from **A Reader's Edition** (\**see below)* This meetup is devoted to the **careful reading and discussion** of C. G. Jung’s extraordinary ***The Red Book*** (*Liber Novus*), one of the most important and fascinating works in the history of **depth psychology.** *(note: reading is required for participation. You may attend if you do not read, yet only listen).* ***The Red Book*** emerged from a period of profound psychological and **spiritual confrontation with the unconscious** that began after Jung’s break with Freud. Before creating ***The Red Book*,** Jung recorded many of his dreams, visions, fantasies, and inner dialogues in **a series of notebooks** now known as ***The Black Books*** *(1913-1916)*. These notebooks served as the more immediate and spontaneous record of his encounters with the unconscious.
