Organizer’s description
Bring a garment that needs a new home. Leave with something new to you. Meet community, share stories and make friends. Swap Salon is a small, curated exchange of distinctive clothing, shoes and accessories at CrossRoads Café. It’s a space to explore dress, extend the lives of things already in the world, and discover what a piece might become on another body. Here, value includes the meaning a piece holds: where you found it, how you wore it, what you repaired, or why you kept it. Contributions don’t need to be expensive or designer. WHAT TO BRING Bring as many items as you like, thoughtfully selected, clean and intact. Clothing, shoes and accessories are welcome. Fast-fashion pieces are welcome if acquired secondhand, purchased at least three years ago, or worn extensively. A secondhand Zara find belongs here; a clear-out of recent, barely worn fast-fashion purchases doesn’t fit the spirit of the exchange. WHAT TO EXPECT Browse, exchange, meet people and share stories of wear. You’re invited to tell us about something you’ve brought or your experiences of mending, sewing, buying and collecting. Sharing is optional, and no elaborate story is required. Sewing supplies will be available onsite for simple alterations you’d like to try yourself. YOUR $20 TICKET Admission includes participation in the exchange, access to sewing supplies, and a take-home card of principles from the organizer's forthcoming book Wearing Otherwise: A Guide to Dress Practice.
