Organizer’s description
When animals become frustrated, they sometimes engage in displacement activities—behaviors that provide an outlet without solving the problem that caused the frustration. Do humans do something similar? In this talk, Leader Curt Collier will explore how consumption, overwork, social media, spectatorship, and cultural conflict may sometimes serve as substitutes for things people actually want but struggle to obtain: agency, security, recognition, belonging, and meaningful participation. Rather than simply judging these behaviors, we’ll ask: What might they tell us about the needs that are going unmet—and about how those unmet needs are reflected in our society? This Gathering is at the meetinghouse and on Zoom. To receive the Zoom link, please email [admin@ethicalfocus.org](mailto:admin@ethicalfocus.org) by noon on Friday.
