Organizer’s description
Join us for a screening at Stanford University of Stray Embers, an intimate, vérité portrait of resilience, community, and climate crisis in rural Northern California. In November 2018, the Camp Fire became the deadliest wildfire in California history. Brad Weldon, a fifth-generation resident of Paradise, saved his home with little more than luck, some garden hoses, and sheer determination. What began as an act of survival became something more: Brad opened his doors to more than 20 displaced neighbors, friends, and their many dogs, creating a sprawling, improvised household. Filmed over five tumultuous years, Stray Embers follows this multi-generational community as it navigates grief, recovery, and the question of what it means to rebuild, not just a home, but a way of living together.
