Organizer’s description
UPDATE: Tickets have now sold out. Step back in time and experience the sights and sounds of Britain's Home Front. This labyrinth of tunnels, which were opened in 1939, is the largest purpose-built civilian air raid shelters in the country designed to provide shelter for up to 3,850 people. They were extended in 1940-41 to accommodate 6,500. In 1996 Stockport Council re-opened the shelters as a visitor attraction and this unique, award-winning museum became one of Stockport’s most significant attractions and educational facilities. Excavated into the natural sandstone cliffs of the town centre, the mile-long network of underground tunnels offers visitors direct and exceptional insights into life on the Home Front. This tour will also visit areas of the tunnels which are not usually open to the public. They includes unlit and reinforced tunnelling. You’ll be able to see the full extent of Stockport’s air raid preparations. We will meet up in the venue and go on their official tour which starts at 7pm. Nice, easy and interesting! Please purchase your ticket for the tour at the museum's EventBrite page before RSVPing here. Tickets are limited so book before it's too late! Make sure to get the November 3rd tour. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/air-raid-shelters-explorer-tours-going-underground-2026-tickets-1976734195190 Tickets are £14.25 and the tour is around 90 minutes.
