Agenda: 5:30-6pm: Doors open/networking 6-6:10pm: Opening remarks 6:10-6:25pm: Lightning talk 6:25-6:50pm: Talk #1 6:50-7:05pm: Intermission 7:05-7:30pm: Talk #2 7:30-7:40pm: Closing remarks After party to follow at Owl N' Thistle (808 Post Ave, Seattle, WA 98104) What we'll do: This event will feature the following presentations: Lightning talk: Transformation Bias in Machine Learning Speaker: Brandon Sherman Description: We’ve all been there - you fit a model to predict log(y), but you want the predictions on the original untransformed scale. Unfortunately, exponentiating the prediction will systematically underestimate the expected value of Y! This is transformation bias. In this talk, I’ll discuss why transformation bias is a mathematical guarantee in this setting, and will walk through several approaches for correcting it. Talk #1: Beyond the Prompt: The Frontier of AI Coding Speaker: Tyrell Towle Description: AI is transforming software development, but generating code is only the beginning. Modern coding agents can navigate repositories, write and execute programs, test their work, and tackle increasingly complex projects. Yet significant challenges remain in reliability, context management, autonomous execution, and verifying the correctness of AI-generated software.
