Organizer’s description
Hey team - The days are getting cooler, the nights are getting longer, and pumpkin spice lattes are everywhere. It's officially Fall and that means we have another spooky book lined up to read for October. This month we will be reading the 1943 supernatural horror novel Conjure Wife by the American writer Franz Leiber. The novel is about a husband, Norman, a young sociology professor who one day finds out that his wife, Tansy, is a witch. As a believer of reason and empirical truth, Norman convinces Tansy to destroy all her witchy charms. Little does he know that Tansy's magic was the only thing protecting them from the dark forces out to get them. Conjure Wife is widely acknowledged to be a classic of modern horror fiction and was the inspiration for a fair number of pulpy B-movies from the 50s. The 1943 version was re-published earlier this year from Frolic Press and come in at 261 pages, but there's also a "expanded and revised" 1953 version floating around. Either way, prepare to get witchy!
