Organizer’s description

MLMAS’s eighth session is entitled “Not Folksingers: ‘70s Singer-Songwriters.” In the early 1970s, a new generation of singer-songwriters was emerging that were markedly different from the folk artists of the ‘60s. They inherited folk music’s emphasis on stories and the individual voice, but they generally weren’t considered folksingers. Their music drew freely from rock, pop, country, blues, and jazz, and it was too individual to belong neatly to any one of them. MLMAS member Leah will present the music of nine major singer-songwriters of the era. Amazingly, eight of the nine played live at the Main Point, just a few doors down from Bryn Mawr Film Institute. This is a free event. No preparation required — only curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to listen intently. Hope to see you there.
