Organizer’s description

Designing for Human Difference: Neurodiversity, Belonging, and the Conditions We Create What if people didn’t have to change who they are to succeed? Neurodiversity reminds us that there is no single “right” way to think, communicate, learn, work, or experience the world. In this session, we’ll explore neurodiversity, the strengths and differences neurodivergent people bring, and how neurodivergence intersects with other aspects of identity. We’ll also examine the conditions we create, from communication and expectations to systems, culture, and physical spaces, and how those conditions can create barriers or help people participate more fully and authentically. Together, we’ll consider a central question: How can we design workplaces, learning environments, and communities where more people can be themselves and thrive? Learning Objectives: Learn how neurodiversity reflects the natural differences in how people think, learn, communicate, and experience the world, so they can better recognize and value human difference. Learn how strengths, challenges, and intersectional identities shape neurodivergent experiences, so they can move beyond assumptions and better understand individual needs and perspectives. Learn how Universal Design can reduce barriers and create more inclusive conditions, so they can help build workplaces, learning environments, and communities where more people can be themselves and thrive.
