We’re finally going to get to see Ken Russell’s preferred edition here in London, with the fully assembled and restored director’s cut presented in very rare 35mm. This will be my first time seeing it as well, so I hope we can enjoy it together. This movie was heavily censored and controversial when originally released, taking on the collusion of church and state, religious persecution and collective hysteria. This restoration, which many believed would never happen, brings Russell’s incendiary masterpiece back to the big screen as one of British cinema’s most uncompromising films. The Meetup: We’ll be meeting at the Victory House Bar for pre-drinks at 4:45 pm before heading to the Prince Charles Cinema for the 5:50 pm session. I’ll be in seat A7 if you’d like to sit nearby.
