Organizer’s description
This will be a 6ish mile loop hike on the trails of the Wissahickon Valley Park. We'll start off with a slow climb up the only significant hill on this hike to reach Andorra Meadow. After spending some time on the relatively flat trails of the meadow, we'll make our way back down to Forbidden Drive and head to a couple of bridges that cross the Wissihickon, including the Thomas Mill Covered Bridge where we can spend a short time taking photos, and the Rex Avenue Bridge. We'll then head up the White Trail before returning to Forbidden Drive and the start. We'll meet outside the former Cedars House Cafe at the intersection of Forbidden Drive and Northwestern Avenue at 9:30am. Free street parking on Northwestern Avenue at Northwestern Stables. Porta-Potties available at start or indoor pit-toilets available 15 minutes into the hike - plan accordingly. A Note about the Trails: We'll be staying mostly on the wider less rocky trails. Even so, hiking shoes are required and hiking poles can be helpful. The trails follow rolling hills, so there are many sections of gradual up and downs. If you are not a fan of elevation changes, then this hike is NOT for you. There will be bail-out points. Don't forget to bring water and a snack. Steady rain cancels event. Update will be posted in Meetup by 6am the day of the event. If you sign up for this event and your plans change, Please remember to update your RSVP in Meetup.
