Organizer’s description
Join us for a beautiful pre-lunch circular hike from Guildford, combining some of the best features of the Surrey countryside — woodland trails, sandy hill paths, historic St Martha’s Church, elevated views towards Albury and a return through historic Guildford close to Guildford Castle. This is the kind of route where the scenery keeps changing. We’ll leave Guildford behind, move through quieter countryside and woodland, then gradually climb towards St Martha’s Hill, where the landscape opens up and the walk starts to feel much more expansive. The main highlight will be St Martha-on-the-Hill, one of Surrey’s most distinctive hilltop churches. Reached on foot, it sits high above the surrounding countryside, with sandy approaches, woodland and broad views making the climb itself part of the experience. From there we’ll continue along higher ground towards The Roughs, with views across Albury and the surrounding Surrey landscape, before gradually looping back towards Guildford. The route passes through Guildford Castle. It is long enough to feel like a proper Sunday hike but short enough to leave much of the afternoon free.
