Organizer’s description
In person, Joanna Clines will describe the process of completing this rather hefty but beautiful book; including shots of photography and collecting trips throughout the Sierra Nevada, herbarium work at UC/Jepson, and the overall process of completing this rather hefty but lovely book. Joanna was born in Fresno, CA. After falling in love with biology through an introductory class at Fresno City College, she earned a BA in Environmental Biology, then a Master’s in botany at CSU Fresno. Her thesis research was on the reproductive and fire ecology of the rare shrub Carpenteria californica. Joanna began working on this book project with photographer Stephen Sharnoff in 2008. She is the Forest Botanist for the Sierra National Forest. Joanna served on the State CNPS board in the 1990s and is past president of the Sequoia Chapter. She also served on the Cal-IPC board. The inspiring Jake Sigg was an early mentor and friend. Jake contributed financially to producing this book and his encouragement meant a lot. Joanna lives in the Sierra Nevada north of Oakhurst.
