Organizer’s description
November's topic will be conducted by Bro. Natasha Dunning as she discusses the question: "How much of our soul are we willing to sacrifice in the pursuit of knowledge, power, and fulfillment?" Synopsis: Throughout history, humanity has wrestled with the desire for greater knowledge, power, and understanding. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s *Faust* explores this struggle through the story of a scholar who, dissatisfied with the limitations of human knowledge and experience, enters into a dangerous bargain with Mephistopheles. This philosophical discussion will examine the relationship between ambition, temptation, free will, and the pursuit of enlightenment. Through the lens of *Faust*, we will explore whether the relentless pursuit of knowledge leads to genuine wisdom or whether it can become a pathway to moral and spiritual destruction. Ultimately, we will consider a timeless question: Can enlightenment truly be achieved without first confronting the darkness within ourselves? Mission Statement: The Masonic Philosophical Society embraces the concept of learning, not for school, but for life, and believes that all men, who seek it, deserve access to continued education. We further embrace the concept of a community environment where ideas can be shared and debated in an open forum. From the seven liberal arts to the arcane, we seek to gain and share the knowledge that is the legacy of mankind.
