Join Fashion Fiction, Ace Hotel Brooklyn and ARTBOOK | D.A.P. for an evening celebrating The Cultures of Perfume: Scents that Shaped History by Saskia Wilson-Brown, founder and Executive Director of the Institute for Art and Olfaction, in partnership with Serviette. Structured around 36 distinct scent notes, Wilson-Brown’s book traces perfume through material, cultural and social histories — moving through themes including earth, smoke and fire, water, plants, seduction, magic, religion, power and trade. Along the way, materials including jasmine, leather, tobacco, bergamot, frankincense, musk and ambergris become entry points into larger stories about how humans have used, understood and imagined scent. For this special Fashion Fiction edition, invited readers will each respond to a chapter or material from the book through a short reading, featuring Jordan Kisner, Taylore Scarabelli, Brendon Holder, Heather McCalden, and Becca Rothfeld, with Saskia Wilson-Brown. Alongside the readings, Serviette will create a scent installation inspired by the book. Guests will be invited to smell a selection of fragrance materials, with each material connected back to both the book and Serviette’s fragrances. A selection of specialty cocktails inspired by the evening will also be available from the Ace Hotel Brooklyn bar.
