The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius, (mtg. 1 of 2)

At our next Western Civilization meeting, we'll discuss Meditations, the renowned collection of personal reflections and Stoic philosophy written by the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. We'll explore how Aurelius applied Stoic principles to navigate the heavy burdens of imperial leadership, plague, and relentless military conflict on the frontiers of the empire. We'll examine his thoughts on the impermanence of life, the importance of inner tranquility, and the cultivation of virtue in a chaotic world. Finally, we'll consider how these ancient spiritual exercises continue to resonate today, offering a timeless guide for ethical living, self-mastery, and mental fortitude. Please join us if you can.
