AI summary · From the event listing

🌱 Why is deciding whether to have children so hard, and why did no one ever teach us how? For most of history, parenthood simply arrived as an expectation. Then reliable contraception, later marriage, and changing careers turned it into a choice, and most of us never learned how to make one. Join Meghan Brown, a pre-doctoral researcher at Stanford University, and perinatal therapist, for a thoughtful look at one of life's biggest decisions. Using Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems model, Meghan walks through every layer of influence at play, from the family you grew up in to friends, workplaces, culture, and the economy. Then comes a six-step roadmap drawn from acceptance and commitment therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. You will learn to notice where you stand today, separate your own wants from outside expectations, examine the stories you absorbed growing up, clarify your values, and imagine both futures, including the regret each might carry. The talk favors neither answer. Whether you are leaning yes, leaning no, or still unsure, you will leave with a framework to use on your own and the reassurance that you are not alone in asking. 💛 📵 A No-Phone Lecture 📵 This event is a special one: we are asking attendees not to use their phones during the duration of the event (7-9pm). After you check in, we will ask you to turn your phone off and slip it into an envelope provided at the door.
