Organizer’s description
Hey Everyone we are launching a Desi film club as an extension of the book club, this will be run by our book club member Natasha. Come one, come all to the Bollywood/Desi Film Club! My name is Natasha and I am creating this film club to build a community that celebrates, analyzes, and enjoy films made by and for desi people. We will be watching films from India's Hindi Film Industry, commonly known as Bollywood, and other film industries in India such as Malayalam Cinema, Tamil Cinema, Marathi Cinema, Bengali and so many more film industries that represent specific languages/ethnic cultures. Don't worry, we won't exclude Desi films from other desi siblings that make up the subcontinent in Pakistan, Kashmir, Nepal, Sri Lanka and diaspora films made from the U.S., Canada, and more. ☺️ We will be exploring films from the silent era, to the golden era, current, mainstream, art house, and so much more! You don't have to be an expert on films or the industries (I certainly am not) to join. In celebration of the spooky season 👻 our first film will be the Bollywood film Baramulla (2025) which can be found on Netflix. Rules: 1\. Please watch the film on your own or with others and let's meet and talk about it\. 2\. All films suggested to watch must provide English Subtitles\. Not all of us are fluent in the 400\+ languages and dialects from the subcontinent\. ;) 3\. No\, you do not have to be Indian or South Asian to be part of the club\.
