Talks, demonstrations, and performances connecting art, mathematics, and code, including drumming analysis, live-coded music and visuals, and an audience-led collective-breath performance.
Explore drumming statistics and live-coded music and visuals, then participate in an audience-led performance that turns collective breathing into an instrument and visualization.
Composition is an event for talks, performances, and demos that intertwine art modalities, mathematics, and code.Composition site - https://composition.codesComposition instagram - @composition.codesTalks, Demos & Performances:Dr. Michael Yatauro – Drumming and Data: A View Through the Lenses of Programming and StatisticsMany professional drummers have uniquely identifiable styles or “footprints”. Much of this comes from how the drummer plays along with the timing of notes, their so-called “groove”. Thanks to mathematics and modern technology, we can quantify how a drummer plays relative to “perfect” metronome time. We present how the data is generated for both metronome time and for the timing of notes played by drummers. We then compare these times and look for statistically relevant trends. For example, how tempo affects the outcome or comparing how a drummer plays a straight beat with how they play a fill.https://sites.psu.edu/mry3/Cherri Diesel – Live Code Music & Visuals with Strudel.cc & Hydra.ojack.xyzhttps://www.instagram.com/cherri_diesel/ Brian Bishop – Breath Activated MachinesBreath Choir is a live, audience-led performance where a room breathes together and that collective breath becomes both instrument and visualization.
