Organizer’s description
Book Night: *Common Sense* by Thomas Paine Our next Next Chapter Men’s Collective Book Night is Thursday, November 19 at 6:00 PM at the Clubhouse. After our last discussion of *Theo of Golden*, we're switching back to nonfiction with one of the most influential works in American history. This month's book was suggested by fellow member Mike Enright. Thanks, Mike! ### This Month’s Book: *Common Sense* By Thomas Paine First published in 1776, *Common Sense* was a powerful and provocative pamphlet that helped inspire the American Revolution and make the case for independence from Great Britain. 250 years later, Paine's arguments about freedom, government, individual rights, leadership, and the responsibilities of citizens still provide plenty to think about and debate. We'll explore the historical significance of the book, discuss Paine's central arguments, and consider how his ideas relate to America today. Don't have time to read the book? Come anyway! *Common Sense* is a relatively short read, but you can also use ChatGPT to get a summary of its major arguments and historical context beforehand. The goal isn't to test anyone's knowledge—it's to enjoy thoughtful discussion, hear different perspectives, and get to know each other better.
