Light cast upon darkness can forcefully or subtly illuminate form. Through shifts in intensity, contrast, atmosphere, and perception, light can suggest drama or poetry and transform how an image, object, or space is experienced. But Light extends beyond illumination. Light can also suggest weight—or its absence. A floating feather placed beside something monumental can transform our understanding of both. A light conversation, uplifted spirits, contentment, peace, and a sense of “lightness of being” move the exhibition into more abstract and emotional territory. At its most elemental, light signals presence. In a space of darkness, even the smallest sliver can fundamentally change what we perceive and what we know is there.
