Organizer’s description
We’ll meet at the 360 trailhead next to the shed at the start of the path. Come prepared for regular hike of about 3 miles. Here and there, however, we’ll leave the trail to walk in the creek bed where the ground is uneven and boulders may be present. Along the way, we’ll stop at exposures of Edwards Limestone and bluff sections to observe fossils, karst features, fractures, and evidence of groundwater flow. We’ll use these features to “read” the geologic history of Barton Creek and the broader Edwards Aquifer system. No prior geology experience is needed—this is a casual, observational walk focused on learning how the landscape formed and how water continues to shape it today. Please wear closed-toe shoes, no sandals or open-toed shoes! If rain is forecast in the Barton Creek watershed, I’ll postpone the hike.
