Ovid's Metamorphoses - Orpheus (Ch. 16 in Reading Ovid)
October 17, 2026 · 12 PM
Brooklyn Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza
A Latin reading-group session reviewing the Orpheus passages in Ovid's Metamorphoses, using Peter Jones' annotated student edition and discussing interesting or difficult passages.
Review the Orpheus passages from Ovid's Metamorphoses with other Latin readers and discuss interesting or difficult sections after reading them beforehand.
This time we will be reading chapter 16 of Peter Jones' edition of Ovid's *Metamorphoses*, "Orpheus" (*Metamorphoses* 10.8-63 and 11.1-66 if you are using a different version). This is a student edition with a lot of notes on vocabulary, scansion, culture, and grammar, so hopefully it should be accessible to people at different Latin levels. The idea is to read the stories before the meeting, then go over them again when we're all together to discuss any parts that seemed particularly interesting or difficult. We will meet on Saturday, Oct, 17 at 12:00 PM noon in the main lobby/coffee shop area of the Brooklyn Central Library at Grand Army Plaza.
