October 24, 2026 · 2 PM
Museum of Chinese in America, 215 Centre Street, New York
Shadow-puppet storytelling workshop inspired by Journey to the West, including painting and creating shadow stories.
Celebrate spooky season with shadow puppets inspired by Ed Young’s illustrations of the story of the Monkey King, or Sun Wukong. The Monkey King had countless adventures, but one of the spookiest was his meeting with the White Bone Demon. This terrifying skeleton demon can shapeshift to disguise herself. Will she deceive Sun Wukong long enough to attack? Find out with us, and explore two more beloved stories from Journey to the West in Birth of the Monkey King and Dragon King’s Palace. Paint, build, craft, and collage with us! Inspired by the museum’s exhibitions and local artists, MOCACREATE explores different themes every month. MOCACREATE workshops are designed with families in mind, but all are welcome! Free with admission! RSVP appreciated. MOCA Members should enter their promo code to access complimentary tickets.
