Bayside Historical Society leads a free outdoor walking tour of Lawrence Cemetery, recounting the Lawrence family's history and notable people buried there.

Walk through the landmark Lawrence Cemetery on a free guided tour of the founding family's history, with uneven ground and no on-site restrooms.

The Bayside Historical Society is conducting a free guided tour of the historic Lawrence Cemetery, the burial ground of one of Bayside's founding families. The cemetery's first burial occurred in 1832, with the most recent in 1939. Notable individuals who are interred here include Cornelius Van Wyck Lawrence, New York City's first popularly elected mayor, and Colonel Frederick Newbold Lawrence, former president of the New York Stock Exchange. In 1967, the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission designated the Lawrence Cemetery as a landmark. History will come alive on our tour as we recount the stories of different members of the Lawrence family. Outside Meetup Location: This tour will take place at the Lawrence Cemetery in Bayside, which is located at the corner of 216th Street and 42nd Avenue. Please note: The site will require walking on uneven ground Long pants are recommended to protect your legs No restrooms are available on site Parking by the Lawrence Cemetery is limited The cost is free.
