It's automatic, it's fast, and we can't turn it off. Sometimes those snap judgments are eerily accurate; sometimes they're completely wrong, and we only find out much later. And of course it runs both ways: while we're reading someone, they're reading us, and we rarely know what they're seeing. Tonight is about both sides of that first glance — the impressions we form, and the ones we leave. 1. Think of one of your closest friends today. What was your very first impression of them — and how close was it to who they turned out to be? 2. What do you tend to notice first about a person? A handshake, their eyes, how they treat the waiter? 3. Have you ever been completely wrong about someone — someone you wrote off who became important to you, or someone you instantly liked who let you down? 4. Do you trust your gut about people?
