October 14, 2026 · 7 PM
Era Lounge, San Jose
A talk exploring what dinosaur fossils can teach us about living in the present, led by Scott D. Sampson, PhD.
🦕 What can 66 million year old bones teach us about how to live right now? Dinosaurs were the dominant large animals on Earth for well over 100 million years, and they still manage to captivate generation after generation of humans. But beyond their entertainment value, what is the meaning of dinosaurs, and what important knowledge might we extract from their ancient remains? Scott D. Sampson, PhD, is a dinosaur paleontologist, nonprofit leader, author, and science communicator known to many as Dr. Scott the Paleontologist, host of PBS Kids' Dinosaur Train. He has appeared in numerous television documentaries, served as a science advisor for various media projects, and authored several books, including How to Raise a Wild Child. In this presentation, Scott takes us on a journey through deep time to ask what dinosaurs can teach us at this pivotal and perilous moment in history. Spoiler alert, we still have much to learn from these amazing creatures. Expect a talk that is equal parts wonder and reflection, built for anyone who ever loved dinosaurs as a kid, or still does. 🌎 🕰 Event Details What should I expect? 7:00-7:35 --> arrival & chats 7:35-8:20 --> lecture 8:20-9:00 --> q&a and more chatting Who's invited?
